I am a citizen of the Métis Nation of British Columbia. I am Red River Michif with ancestral ties to the Saskatchewan River District, Turtle Mountains, and Red River. Although I was born Michif, I became a citizen of the Métis Nation of British Columbia and a member of the Chartered Métis Community of Waceya in 2006. In 2024, I helped co-found the Vancouver Sea-to-Sky Métis Association and served my chartered community as Board Secretary. My traditional Michif family names are: Bear, Thorpe, Schindler, and Lenoir, among others. I have spoken about my identity at the Métis Speaker Series and in publications.
